About Paula
I am an artist in love with capturing the beauty of God’s creation with paint and a brush!
My creative journey began at a young age: arranging furniture, painting bedroom walls, sewing, cooking and later, fine art painting. I received my first dose of formal art training in high school where I was inspired by my all-time favorite teacher. I ended up becoming the art club president and received a couple of awards (and a small scholarship) from a local Houston art group, all while selling paintings in my grandparents’ furniture store.
From there, I studied art in college. Some years later, I began an 18-year decorating business where I renewed my love for the creative process through collaboration with so many wonderful people in designing their homes: color consulting, drapes, fabrics, furniture, flooring, lighting … and removing walls. Now I’ve come back to my roots - fine art!
Beauty through transformation is a wonderful thing in the spaces where we live, but most especially in the spaces of the human heart. When I hold a brush and stand in front of my blank canvas, the exciting journey of transforming begins; I am in a world of possibility where seemingly nothing becomes something beautiful. In a similar way God has done this for me, giving hope and possibility where there seemed to be none.
Creating art is a safe place where I breathe deeply. Learning to see what is true, good, and beautiful has been a great source of healing from a traumatic childhood and youth. Beauty is restorative, and I believe God has designed it so.
